It sounds like you guys are just getting to the point in your own maturity that you're figuring out what to say to people you like, what's game playing, if that works or not, etc. My best advice if you really like this guy is to stay friends with him for another couple years and not push things. If you guys started dating when you're 16, you could justify compromising your friendship for the sake of a potentially rewarding relationship. At this point, you're right, you should not risk your friendship at this point because you're too young to experience a lasting, rewarding relationship. Hang in there, the two of you are only a couple years away from ready. In the mean time, flirting with him and being friends with him is probably plenty. You might even tell him if he ever asks that you'd love to go out with him, but that you think you're too young and you'd rather wait until you're 16 to date.
