Do you hate volunteer firemen?

Well I think in your situation it just seems like the volunteer fireman are a bit egotistical. So I don't think it is fair to judge the firemen in your area and use them as the basis for all volunteer firemen. I myself think what they are doing is brave, and it require a bit of courage. Would you run into a burning building? Many of the volunteers do that, and they help out those who are actually on paid staff. They do this without pay. So I don't know that all firemen who are volunteers are this way, at least I don't believe they are. But the ones in your area, are perhaps individuals that need more training and maybe they are immature.
